Librarians visit Waterstones in search of book

Sophie and Sam, two of our librarians, were sent on a mission to search and buy two copies of Wonder by R.J. Palacio for the Year 5/6 class reading book.

They set off on a very cold and icy morning with Mrs Ancell and were back within half an hour. When they got to Waterstones the book was actually on display. This is probably because the film version of the book is coming out in the cinemas very soon.

The children are really enjoying the book and some have even gone out and bought their own copies and are reading it with their parents.

P.S. Mrs Sadler would definitely recommend this book to parents.  She read it on holiday last year and nearly fell out with her family because she wouldn’t speak to them for 2 days- the book was just too good!

Mission completed

We found it really easily on the display. How lucky!

  1. I am so pleased that Mrs Sadler has said she will lend me the book for my next ‘Holiday read’.
Thank you librarians you are doing an amazing job. Our discovery room is being kept organised to enable all classes to make sure that children can choose books relevant to their interests.

  2. Just a quick update.
We have even more children and parents reading this book now. It really is going down well. The children love the short chapters which are packed with events and emotions. It’s certainly got us discussing some weighty topics.
I also love the fact that many children have seen the film but prefer the book.
It’s going to be a hard one to beat when I think of choosing the next class book we read.

  3. I read ‘Wonder’ a couple of years ago. It’s one of those books that you think about weeks after finishing it! A key theme in the book is ‘courage’ and standing up for those you care about. It’s good you’re reading the book before you watch the film!

  4. It certainly is Mr Whiteley. I’ve seen these children engrossed in this novel. I’m sure the children will recommend it to everyone. It will be my summer read this year.
