Plan, Monitor, Evaluate – Metacognitive Strategies

To improve learning, a section of the lessons in our ReflectED program include teaching the children how to ‘plan, monitor and evaluate’ their progress in all projects they undertake.  The children in Year 3/4 are currently building several types of water lifting devices.  Most children have drawn plans and thought of the equipment they need.  Throughout the creative process they are being encouraged to constantly monitor how they’re doing.  Are they on the right track?  Do they need to do anything to improve?  What might they do if they need help?  We’re looking forward to seeing how they turn out!

  1. It has been very interesting listening to the children sharing their ideas and being given the opportunity to be taught discrete skills to put their ideas into practice. They might not all succeed but they will learn from their ‘marvellous’ mistakes.
