Today, the year 5/6 class went into the great outdoors to investigate what different objects they could weigh using their newton-metres. We discussed the common misconception between mass and weight and how weight is actually a force. Also, we found out that Isaac Newton was the scientist who discovered the force of gravity, which is why we measure weight in newtons (N). We took our clipboards onto the field and all managed to weigh 10 objects each, including cones. apples, logs and even Miss Mutch’s shoe. We had so much fun and we cannot wait to discover more about forces!
