Y3/4 go back in time to Ancient Egypt…

Y3/4 had a wonderful time at the Oriental Museum this week, learning lots of incredible facts about times in ancient Egypt. They handled REAL artefacts, asked lots of questions about them and found out that the ancient Egyptians used pots to keep their make up in, were often buried with shabti (small statues) which would then become their slaves and used oil to make light. We explored how the mummification process needed a strong stomach, as lots of internal organs had to be removed, then even had a go ourselves, ‘mummifying’ our chosen Pharaoh before deciding if they were worthy enough to go to the afterlife.
The children will use this knowledge to compare to life and beliefs in the ancient Sumer and Indus Valley civilisations and during the Shang Dynasty. Most of us didn’t want to leave as we had had such an amazing time and learnt so much!
Thank you to the museum for imparting such knowledge in such a fun and informative way!
