The news starters in Bees have settled in fantastically. As well as introducing new rules and routines, we have begun to introduce resources for the children to explore, linked to our topic. Some children have already begun to memorise the story of the ‘The Little Red Hen’ and perform it for others. They’ve listen to stories on the CD player and used masks to take the role of the characters. In the role play area the children have been more interested in baking cakes than bread but several orders have been placed, including birthday cakes and wedding cakes. In the messy area we’ve added some corn and characters from the story to further promote story telling. In the tuff spot we tried to encourage children to draw fruit with oil pastels. The boys became much more interested though when we allowed them to hammer golf tees into the fruit. Finally, we’ve begun to introduce our new mathematics scheme to Year One pupils called ‘Maths No Problem’. It’s early days yet but the children are quickly becoming used to their new year groups.
