A kidney specialist visits Y3/4

Sam, in Y3, has a very special mum who is a nurse, specialising in care of the kidneys.

She came in this morning to talk to us about how to keep kidneys healthy, toxins that build up in the kidneys, where they are and what happens when people need a fake kidney.

Did you know that kidneys are in the back of your body?

Did you know that they are about the size of a computer mouse?!

Did you know that we only actually need one kidney?

Lots of our questions were answered today. A huge thank you to Sam’s mum for spending her morning off with us. Wow! Aren’t our bodies amazing!

  1. Thank you so much for coming in to support this science work. The children’s curriculum is enhanced by the expertise you have being shared.
You may have inspired our children to consider specialised nursing as a career.

  2. Fabulous! It has been absolutely fantastic to be able to have so many visiting experts to join us in school to support the children’s learning during this topic. It’s definitely been one that they will remember. I’m amazed at how much they have learnt!

  3. The Autumn term’s topic in year 3/4 was really enhanced by all our visitors and was a great inspiration for our tag line, ‘Where’s the science in that?’
Thanks to all three of our professionsals that visited.
