Awesome artwork from the Penguins!

Yesterday the penguins had their first amazing session with one of Northallerton’s local artists, Wendi New. To link with our topic work on The Enchanted Forest and the Literacy text ‘Moth’ we are focusing on as part of Science Week, the children were treated to a fantastic afternoon where they were using many different natural materials and were inspired to create their own picture of a moth. From Wendi they learnt that it is possible to paint with saffron and cochineal and graphite.  Ask your children about where these natural materials can be found.  These are just some of the pictures they produced.

  1. Ms New told me that the children had drawn with dried up clay, graphite, rock, sticks, leaves, ferns and used handmade inks. They used carmine, saffron, clay, liquid, graphite, powdered graphite, walnut ink to name a few!
It is great to see photos of the children and their artwork. Everyone loved the surprise colours and effects.
The art work they created was fabulous….the red carmine and saffron popped out from the greys and blacks so well.

    Next week Puffins Class.
