This week we planned for rain as the weather forecast looked grim. It didn’t spoil the fun and learning however as the children worked as a team to build waterproof shelters. Some children helped unravel the tarpaulin, others tied strong string to tent pegs whilst another group of children secured the shelters using a mallet and pegs. Before lunch a small group insisted on sweeping the floor of their new shelter and making it tidy. Although the weather prevented us from making lanterns and cooking on the fire, we played lots of team games including the helicopter game, follow my leader and sardines. The children also learnt some basic terminology for the parts of a tree, including finding out why trees need roots, and discussed different types of weather in Autumn.

I wish they had done this when I was at school. It looks so fun!
So do I Mrs Sadler!
A perfect shelter – well done everyone. To get one up that size it must have taken a lot of hard work and team work.
The children told me their favourite game in the woods was sardines. Wonderful learning!
I love that through our PE and Sport funding we have been able to support the work Mr Whiteley and Mrs Hobbs do in school for Forest Schools. The children absolutely love it and gain so many skills from each session as well s developing motor skills.
