A WWII expert visits Y3/4!

Fitzgerald Class have been treated to a special visitor who came to talk to us about local World War II airfields and aeroplanes, how integral our area was to the War Effort and even had a go at spotting Friend or Foe aeroplanes that would fly overhead!

Children were set tasks that included using the War Graves Commission web searches for local names, the role of local airfields, what our aircrew wore and the trains that travelled through Northallerton before and during the war.

Children used different methods to research using different sources and used technical vocabulary like foe, commonwealth, aircrew, spitfire and allies.

A huge thank you to Mr G (Mr Garnham) for leading the session and preparing the children for lots of WWII historical enquiry next week during Heritage Week!
